Edna Foa: Exposure therapy is used mostly with anxiety disorder. The idea is that people who suffer from anxiety disorders—who get anxious when they confront safe situations or objects—are taught through exposure therapy to become less afraid, or not afraid at all, of the things they’re fearful of.
